IBC totes for

Short answer

- Plastic or composite pallets — no bare wood on a sanitary floor
- Prior-contents affidavit on file before the tote enters the plant
- Vented 6-inch lids for hot fill

What matters here
Three things that decide a food & beverage order
- 01
Grade is the whole conversation here, and the affidavit is the grade. A bottle in compliant resin with an undocumented history is not food grade and no auditor will accept it as such.
- 02
Plastic or composite bases are effectively mandatory on a sanitary floor. Wood absorbs product and harbours bacteria in its grain; steel has weld crevices that cannot be washed to standard.
- 03
Hot fill needs a vented lid and, often, a silicone rather than EPDM gasket. A solid lid on a hot-filled tote will deform the bottle as it cools.

Specify this grade
Food Grade or Rebottled
Bottle moulded from virgin HDPE conforming to FDA 21 CFR 177.1520, with a documented chain of custody proving it has only ever held food-contact product.
Typical price: $185 – $340
Compare all gradesWhat goes wrong
- Suppliers who describe a tote as "food grade" and cannot produce the prior-contents affidavit
- Totes that smell faintly of anything — odour is permeation, and permeation is permanent
- Vented lids left on stored potable water, which is how you get insects and algae

A food & beverage order, line by line
The configuration decisions that matter here, with our default and when to override it.
| Decision | For this sector | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Grade | Food Grade or Rebottled | Grade is the whole conversation here, and the affidavit is the grade. |
| Base type | Plastic or composite pallets — no bare wood on a sanitary floor | Decided by the floor the container stands on |
| Gasket compound | Matched to the product — tell us the liquid | The commonest cause of a weeping valve |
| Outlet size | DN50 unless the product is viscous | DN80 roughly halves drain time |
| Documentation | Prior-contents affidavit on file before the tote enters the plant | What an auditor or inspector will ask for |
| Quantity | Consolidate where you can | Freight per unit falls by two thirds from 4 to 42 units |

Our grading floor is deliberately boring
Six labelled bays, one decision per unit, no judgement calls allowed at the end of a shift. Interesting processes produce inconsistent grades.

What a crushed cage tells you about the bottle inside
Counterintuitively, the worse the cage looks, the better the odds on the bottle. We pulled three years of intake records to check.

Reading a cage weld: a field guide to the joint that kills totes
The upright-to-rail joint decides whether a cage is rebottled or baled. Here is what we look at, in what order, and why a bowed upright is fine but a kinked one is not.
